Major scientific interests

My main focus is in analyzing diversity of microbial populations in the human gut. I study microbiome-host interactions in IBD patients (Crohn´s disease and ulcerative colitis) treated with different therapies such as biological therapy, probiotic therapy or fecal transplantation. My second focus is apart from microbiology also immunology which creates an interesting multidisciplinary view on the diseases studied. I am interested not only in microbiome of patients but also of healthy individuals, particularly when the project has an overlap with different fields like immunology or bioinformatics.

In our laboratory we use molecular biology methods ranging from simple PCR-DGGE approach to a high throughput NGS on Ion Torrent platform. On the top of that, we use various software packages such as QIIME or Geneious for the consequent NGS data meta-analysis.
